This has been a busy term for Masaki. Masaki needed five-credits to receive the two-year A.A. degree in Occupational Studies, so he signed up for a Mariners (Not Baseball) History Class that was given at night for the students at the Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding. This left very little time for him to take photos and such. Now the class is finished and the final paper has been turned in ... the boy's smile has returned and he seems more relaxed.

Here you find Masaki working on the finishing work for the hold of the 16-foot Whitehall built by the Traditional Small Craft Students. This is one of three that was built for a BBC Documentary. The other two were 21-foot Whitehall built by the Traditional Large Craft students.
At this point where the oars anchor
into the sides of the boat, this wood
is too soft to hold up to the everyday
wear and tear. Masaki is strengthening
this point with Mahogany oarlock.
Masaki was on the inside using his drill
to make the hole to place the bow ring on this boat.
